Holiday is a contemporary dance piece which explores the notion that every single person, at some point in their lives, has wanted to kill somebody. A family is born: existing only to sink, split, rupture and snap eachother’s bodies. The body is a burden that we all carry with us. Is it a more meaningful life to be in control, measured and willing to shoulder responsibility, or is there truth, a lightness of being, to be found in living impulsively?
Holiday in Mudfest will be developed from an initial look into a murderous impulse to build more plot, text, character, and flow into a longer piece. Holiday’s intent is taking this moment of a split second impulse and stretching it into a 40 minute piece, following the journey of a nuclear family as they abandon the weight of their lives and go on holiday, a space they have kept hidden even from themselves. On Holiday , there is no moral consciousness and nowhere left to hide – only the desire to ride the impulse remains.
How fast can blood escape from the body? What are the different ways bones can break? Can you strangle someone with just your nails?
Will the family sink, deflate, spurt out, snap, twist, and finally fall?
